Football stars send birthday wishes to Arsenal’s Aubameyang

[ad_pod ]

Yesterday was quite a special day for Pierre-Emeric Aubameyang, Arsenal’s coveted striker, because he celebrated his 30th birthday.

And if his

His friends and the rest of the footballing world were quick to jump on the snap, wishing the speedy striker all the best and sending their regards.

London rival Timeoue Bakayoko was one of the first ones to the scene to congratulate Aubameyang with best wishes and emojis but also did not forget to include the striker’s signature move with #wakanda.

Ousmane Dembele, who played with the Gabonese international at Dortmund, was next up to pass along his best wishes, as were a series of other players.

Aubameyang arrived at Arsenal in January 2018 and has so far played 65 games for the Gunners, scoring 41 and assisting 12. He has very much become a key figure at the Emirates.

Liverpool: Junior Firpo would sure be a statement

Liverpool set to meet £45million asking price of impressive La Liga full-back Junior Firpo, as per Spanish outlet Sport.

According to reports, the Reds have identified Real Betis defender Junior Firpo as a possible replacement for the outbound Alberto Moreno, who is set to officially leave the club at the end of the month.

Obviously, this leaves Liverpool short on cover on the left flank, with just Andrew Robertson the only out-and-out left-back in the squad as it stands, so there is certainly scope for a new arrival.

The Spanish under-21 international, who is currently representing his country in the European Championships, apparently drew a number of admirers in La Liga last season and would set Liverpool back substantially more than the £10million it took to secure Robertson’s signature from Hull City back in 2017.

Whether Klopp is willing to part with the necessary £45million it would take to sign what will essentially be a back-up to Robertson remains to be seen. However, the German recently shed a little light on the subject by explaining that he has a budget at Liverpool (as demonstrated by last year’s transfer extravaganza which saw the German break the club record twice) and he’s not afraid to use it.

“Liverpool is an ambitious club and if we didn’t spend the same amount of money as others, we wouldn’t be able to compete,” Klopp told German broadcaster ZDF (via the Mirror).

“Everybody’s splashing the cash, so we have to do the same.”

According to the analysts over at La Liga Analysis, Firpo has characteristics which they’d liken to the great Roberto Carlos –  a man known for his dynamic ability to both attack and defend.

At just 22-years-old, as well, and already drawing attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe (Madrid and Manchester United were recently rumoured to be interested in him) it’s abundantly clear that whoever grabs this up-and-coming youngster will have a real player for years to come.

Already champions of Europe, signing Firpo would be a major power play.

Liverpool fans, do you think there’s any chance that anyone will be able to dethrone Robertson? Is it wise to spend so much on a back-up? Let us know in the comments below…

Manchester United fans react to reports of new contract talks for Jesse Lingard

[ad_pod ]

After enduring an inconsistent campaign last season, it is fair to say Jesse Lingard was one of a number of Manchester United players who came in for criticism for their performances.

The England international seemed to undergo a revival in the early weeks and months of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign in charge, but appeared to fade away towards the closing stages of the season, failing to score a single goal for club or country since January.

Now, according to a report from ESPN, after Marcus Rashford was awarded a bumper new contract at Old Trafford, Lingard will be next in line for the next round of renewal talks.

The news saw United fans take to Twitter to air their thoughts on the matter and many were unimpressed by the idea that the 26-year-old could be rewarded for a rather under-par campaign.

Indeed, supporters of the Manchester side insisted that the club could not progress on a consistent basis if it kept on handing out new deals for “undeserving players”.

A few resigned fans simply accepted that this was the current plight of the situation at the club and that it was hardly surprising that players like Lingard were potentially being given massive wages for mediocrity.

Phil Hay’s latest update is in keeping with Leeds’ reported plan to keep star man

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Phil Hay has once again given a transfer update on Leeds United, and this one could have huge implications.

There are set to be some outgoings from the Yorkshire club, but these sales could help Marcelo Bielsa’s side keep hold of one of their most important players.

What’s the story?

Earlier this week it was reported by The Daily Star that Leeds were planning on selling some of their less important players so that they can keep hold of Kalvin Phillips next season, with the deep-lying midfielder an Aston Villa target.

Just a few days after that report was published, Hay took to Twitter to provide updates on multiple players who would be leaving the club. He stated that Hadi Sacko, Yosuke Ideguchi and Caleb Ekuban would all be on their way out of Elland Road.

Helping them keep Phillips

The Daily Star stated that the club’s plan to keep Phillips is to move on some less important players.

The aforementioned trio certainly fit into that bracket as all three of them spent last season out on loan.

Hay’s most recent claim fits with what the paper had been saying, and the sale of these three players could help Leeds keep hold of Phillips.

Shifting deadwood allows the Whites to receive transfer fees and open up some space in their wage budget as well, meaning that they wouldn’t be as reliant on the money they would receive if they sold the 23-year-old.

It’s unknown what these players will be sold for, but it’s been rumoured that Ekuban is on his way for around €1m (£900k), and although the fee may seem small they all add up to help aid Leeds’ grand plan.

Pochettino claims he wants Eriksen to stay at Tottenham

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Mauricio Pochettino wants Christian Eriksen to remain at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, he said at the British Grand Prix via Football.London.

What’s the word?

The Denmark international confirmed after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool that he could leave the club in this transfer window.

However, long-mooted links with Real Madrid have not come to anything as yet, while Manchester United, per The Guardian, were ruled out as a destination when they failed to qualify for the Champions League in 2018/19.

And Pochettino is hopeful that Eriksen will end up staying in north London, saying: “I hope he is (going to stay). I think he’s a great player, he’s one of the biggest talents in football.

“After five years working with him, always, I enjoy the way that he plays and I hope, yes. But there’s a lot of interest for different players; I hope yes, but I don’t know what is going to happen with this.”

Contradictory reports

Pochettino perhaps had to say this but it directly contradicts reports suggesting that chairman Daniel Levy is actively trying to sell the Dane.

Reports in Spain have claimed that he has actually offered Eriksen to Real as he looks to raise funds for Pochettino’s summer spending.

He has, of course, already signed Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon and Jack Clarke from Leeds United but links with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon persist.

Spurs might actually need to sell Eriksen to get those deals over the line, particularly Lo Celso, as his contract has an £88m release clause, and one imagines that Levy would not sanction that sale without consulting Pochettino first.

This might well be a bluff from the Argentine, then, as he simply looks to drum up extra interest in the playmaker.

Manchester United fans react to Nemanja Matic interest

[ad_pod ]

One of the finest holding midfielders whilst at Chelsea, Nemanja Matic has struggled to replicate that impressive form since joining Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The Serbian international joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2017 for a reported £40m and his performance levels have dropped alongside his teammates.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested the club were very much interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, and now in the latest update from ESPN, Matic’s long-term future at the club is becoming increasingly uncertain.

The report claims both Inter and AC Milan are keen on signing him, and that the former have “indicated a willingness” to draw up a package deal of £10m plus Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan.

After hearing the news, United fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the rumours and many urged the club to secure the potential deal for the 6 foot 4 midfielder.

Red Devils supporters expressed their belief that they would be getting an incredible deal for the 30-year-old and called on the club to act fast.

Wolves dilemma could already be solved after one pre-season outing

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Wolves’ pre-season preparations began in earnest on Wednesday lunchtime as they started where they left off in 2018/19.

The Midlands club were sensational last term after being promoted from the Championship, finishing in a Europa League place and they stated their intentions ahead of the new campaign with a 4-0 win over Newcastle in the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Nuno Santo’s men were essentially at full-strength besides the absent Matt Doherty and Raul Jimenez.

But throughout the match, the Wolves boss may have just solved a huge dilemma involving the latter already.

On the chalkboard

It’s hard to look too much into pre-season matches but when you’re facing another Premier League outfit, it gives a better indication of what might play out in the top-flight over the next ten months.

Wolves’ start to pre-season will have come as a great comfort to their manager, especially with their first European qualifier looming next week.

It’s a quick turnaround for the black and gold but in Morgan Gibbs-White, they’ve solved a considerable dilemma after just one game.

Heading into the new season, loan enquiries had been made for the teenager but they were swiftly knocked with the notion that he’d be in the first-team picture again.

The 19-year-old struggled to make much of an impact last term, being subjected to just five league starts, claiming a solitary assist.

But with Jimenez not a part of the squad after his exploits in the Gold Cup for Mexico, Gibbs-White was afforded the opportunity to start in a more advanced role behind Diogo Jota.

Jimenez is unlikely to be able to play as big a part next season given the arduous campaign he endured in 2018/19, and there might have been fears over where the goals would come from aside from him and Jota.

In the video below, find out which former Chelsea star could be set to challenge Raul Jimenez as top dog at Wolves…

Indeed the Portuguese scored twice against Newcastle but Gibbs-White has now proven what he could do too, which may well just end the dilemma of whether Nuno can afford to rest Jimenez.

When the Mexican didn’t play last term, Wolves struggled, which was particularly evident in a 2-0 defeat against Burnley in March when the Mexico international started on the bench.

However, this was a Wolves side that didn’t look as though they missed their 17-goal forward, particularly because of how comfortable Jota and Gibbs-White looked going forward.

Although the club are just one game into pre-season, this should be seen as a major plus point.

Manchester City stars compete in fun pre-season "Footgolf Challenge"

Celtic’s Kieran Tierney is "desperate" to leave the club, says Darren Bent

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Darren Bent has told Football Insider that he thinks Kieran Tierney is desperate to make his move from Celtic to Arsenal.

What’s he said?

The recently retired striker has had his say on the Tierney to Arsenal saga that has dragged through the entire window and could conceivably go right up until the English deadline next week.

The Celts left-back has been the subject of multiple bids from Unai Emery’s men this summer, according to BBC Sport, but none of the offers have met the Bhoys’ demands yet.

Bent believes that the 22-year-old wants to be playing in the red of Arsenal this coming season though, citing the levels of competition in the Premiership and Premier League as the reason why.

Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs striker said: “He’s desperate to leave Celtic and join Arsenal in the Premier League, I’m sure of that. He will want to show he can do it in the world’s biggest league and at a higher level.”

While Celtic fans will loathe it, Bent may well be correct in thinking Tierney sees his future in north London.

Hard to disagree

It’s no secret that Tierney is an avid supporter of the Parkhead side and just happens to be contracted to the club he loves. His affinity to the Bhoys might be the reason to as why we don’t know if he wants the leave. Demanding a transfer away from Celtic Park, as other players have done, would put a blot on a pristine copybook.

His silence on the transfer could be a massive hint as to what he’s thinking, if he wanted to stay he could just come out and say as much. That’s not meant to sound like an insult to Tierney’s character because it’s not, and it really shows how much he cares about the fans that he is keeping silent over a potentially career-defining move, but the silence is deafening.

A more clear reason as to why he might fancy the move is the respective club’s summer business. While Arsenal have been making some impressive signings in Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos, Celtic have struggled to get targets in during a frustrating window.

Arsenal’s extravagance in the transfer market compared to Celtic’s inefficiency could be a key reason as to why Tierney wants to make the move, even if he’d never say as much.

Spurs fans thrilled as club complete Giovani Lo Celso loan

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans are delighted to have finally signed Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis.

The club announced on Thursday that they had completed a loan deal for the Argentina international, which includes an option to buy.

It draws to a close one of the summer transfer window’s longest-running sagas, with the attacking midfielder becoming the club’s third signing following the acquisitions of Jack Clarke and Tanguy Ndombele. A deal for Ryan Sessegnon was announced later on Thursday.

And fans are thrilled at the deal chairman Daniel Levy has struck, particularly after Lo Celso’s mightily impressive 2018/19 season at Betis.

[ad_pod ]

He scored 16 goals in all competitions in La Liga and he has also won a total of 18 caps for Argentina.

A tricky No.10, it remains to be seen if he will eventually be a replacement for Christian Eriksen, who is said to be holding out for a move to Spain; the Liga transfer window does not shut until the end of the month.
