Man City: Fans react to Zinchenko rumour

Newcastle United will look to sign Manchester City left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko on loan during the January transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

As to be expected, the exit rumour has had plenty of City supporters talking on social media.

Zinchenko, who has been hailed as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola, has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2016 and has made 106 appearances in sky blue.

He started in midfield against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, but the Ukraine international has only made two Premier League appearances (both as a substitute) during the current campaign.

The Daily Mail shared a story on Thursday, suggesting that Newcastle will attempt an ambitious loan deal during the winter window for the 24-year-old.

Zinchenko has been reluctant to leave City in the past and is under contract until 2024, but it seems as if Eddie Howe’s side will look to seal a temporary deal over the coming months.

Leeds plotting Andrei Girotto transfer bid

Leeds United are thought to be preparing a seven-figure bid for FC Nantes’ Andrei Girotto in January, according to Homme du Match.

The Lowdown: Girotto profiled

The defender has been with the Ligue 1 club since 2017 and has made 130 appearances for his current employers. The 29-year-old has started every Ligue 1 game this season and has scored three of his eight goals for Nantes during the current campaign.

Capable of playing as a centre-back or in a defensive or central midfield role, the versatile 6 foot 1 beast is on £21,000 per week in France and has been on Leeds’ radar for some time.

The Latest: Bid expected…

Homme du Match shared a story on Tuesday, suggesting that the Whites are expected to make a January bid in the region of €5m (£4.2m) for Girotto.

The report describes the Brazilian as a player who would perfectly fit the Premier League, and it appears as if Leeds will attempt to bring him to Yorkshire over the coming months.

The Verdict: At last…

Andrea Radrizzani is yet to make a significant purchase in January while Marcelo Bielsa has been in charge at Elland Road, with the majority of business finalised in the summer, but it seems as if that may change with a possible swoop for Girotto.

The 29-year-old has been compared to West Ham’s Tomas Soucek by FBRef and has made more tackles and pressures than the Czech Republic international this season.

On that basis, bringing in the Brazilian could be a shrewd piece of business in a deal under £5m. He would give Bielsa another option in midfield, where the Whites are arguably short, can provide cover at the back and would bring a welcome physical presence, sanding just two inches shorter than Soucek.

Rangers must complete Longstaff swoop

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers side have been touted as a potential destination for a top-flight central midfielder at the end of the season.

The Chronicle have namedropped the Gers and Celtic as clubs who could land Newcastle United gem Sean Longstaff on a pre-contract deal in January, although it is unclear whether this is pure speculation or based around interest from the two Scottish giants.

Get it done

If this is a deal the club are lining up, van Bronckhorst must sanction the move and ensure that Ross Wilson is able to get it over the line in the coming weeks heading into January. His contract situation at St. James’ Park provides them with the perfect opportunity to pick up a bargain and it could be a shrewd deal for Rangers.

He is out of contract next summer and the Gers could land a pre-contract agreement with him in January, which would then allow him to join without the club paying a single penny in transfer fees at the end of the campaign.

Transfermarkt value him at £13.5m, suggesting that Rangers could save a huge amount of cash by signing him on a free. Therefore, it could be a fantastic swoop for the Scottish outfit from a financial viewpoint and could free up funds for Wilson to invest in other areas of the club.

In terms of his ability on the pitch, he has earned some high praise. Former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick previously lauded his attributes. The current Old Trafford coach said:

“Sean is a fantastic talent and doing well at the moment. He hasn’t played a awful lot of games yet, but the future is bright for him.

“I don’t like comparing his playing style to mine. It is not fair on Sean. He is carving his own career out. He has his own traits and strengths. I always enjoy seeing young players getting a chance.”

The £23k-per-week gem has made 3.3 tackles and interceptions per game in the Premier League this season, scoring once in 11 matches. This shows that he has the tenacity and strength to win the ball back consistently in the English top-flight, which is a quality he could bring to Ibrox.

At the age of 24, he also has plenty of room left to grow and develop as a player over the years. Therefore, he could be a superb signing for the here and now and the future, which is why the Rangers boss must sanction a deal for the Newcastle midfielder in January ahead of him arriving next summer.

Omole contract talks advance at Spurs

As per Allnigeriasoccer.com, yet more contract news has come out of Tottenham Hotspur as talks reach an advanced stage with youngster Tobi Omole.

The Lowdown: Spurs tying up new deals?

Already this week, The Athletic broke news that Tottenham had entered talks over fresh terms for first team mainstay and long-serving goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, with his current deal set to expire in 2022 as things stand.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Manager Antonio Conte and transfer chief Fabio Paratici have been linked with finding his replacement with the latter man even bringing in Atalanta shot stopper Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan with the option to make his stay permanent.

As well as Lloris, Spurs are thought to be contemplating a new deal for midfield gem Oliver Skipp after his impressive performances this season (The Athletic).

Now, as per an African source, more contract news has come out of Hotspur Way as a development emerges involving highly-rated starlet Omole.

The Latest: Omole talks advance…

According to the outlet, Spurs have tabled a new contract offer for the 21-year-old as he enters the final six months of his current deal.

Negotiations over his renewal are said to be at an ‘advanced stage’ with the club keen to tie him down as Omole pushes for a first team breakthrough.

It is even said that Conte has been watching the centre-half at ‘close quarters’ as he contemplates handing him a first team senior debut before the end of 2021/2022.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Standing at an imposing 6 foot 2, the young defender is said to be highly thought of by Spurs coaches and is adept at playing in a variety of positions – including as a full-back, left-sided centre-back and even in front of the back four (Transfermarkt).

The former Arsenal academy man has been a fixture for the Lilywhites’ Under-23s this season, making 12 Premier League 2 appearances and even getting on the scoresheet twice (Transfermarkt).

Former boss Nuno Espirito Santo clearly saw something in Omole, having called him up to the senior squad on three separate occasions for matches against Rennes, NS Mura and Crystal Palace – highlighting how he has turned heads at Tottenham.

Tying him down is clearly the right move, especially given how left-footed centre-backs are currently a valuable commodity in the game.

Ismael confirms WBA transfer window plans

West Bromwich Albion have been heavily linked with extremely active in the January transfer window, in an effort to claw back victories in the Championship, score more goals and ultimately get promoted back to the Premier League next season.

What’s the story?

Valerien Ismael has confirmed that he met with the West Bromwich Albion transfer committee this week, and has spoken out about the plans for January:

“We expect something to happen,” the Baggies boss said. “We are working behind the scenes and have a plan in place. We are ready and expect incomings and outgoings.

“We have spoken a lot. We had a meeting this week and know exactly what we can do, so it’s a good feeling.

“It’s maybe the chance to bring another fresh player with another mentality. We need to find the right balance between what we can do and what is available on the market and who is able to play straight away to help us.”

What next for West Brom?

There has been a lot of rumours surrounding the signing of a striker for the Baggies, which is an area of the team that could be causing the side to fall behind in the league table, with Fulham at the top scoring 21 more goals already this season and second place Bournemouth seven goals ahead of Albion’s 30 goal tally.

Thus, to hear that Albion will be active in the winter market will surely leave supporters buzzing.

It’s very clear that West Brom are in a position where the January transfer window could either make or break their chances of promotion back to the Premier League this season, and clearly, Ismael is aware of that too, with a lack of goals scored compared to their competitors for the top of the table, a striker seems to be the prime target.

The pressure seems to have slightly eased off the West Brom manager, who had sacking rumours circulating before the two wins that the Baggies have picked up in succession over the last fortnight, but he will need to do more to make sure the side is in good shape going into the second half of the season.

Fans will surely be grateful for the reassurance for their club’s manager after the side seems to be on the other side of a bad run of form, but will still be expecting big things from the transfer window, especially in the attacking third of the squad where current players have been goal shy so far with loanee striker, Jordan Hugill only scoring one goal so far this season.

Everton could axe Gomes with Zakaria

With Everton having won five, drawn four and lost eight of their 17 Premier League games so far this season, the upcoming January transfer window could provide Rafa Benitez with the opportunity to make some changes to his squad to help them turn their fortunes around and end the season on a high.

In a recent transfer mailbag report on Everton from The Athletic, they claimed that there are “whispers of interest” from the Merseyside club in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Since joining Monchengladbach back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Young Boys, the 25-year-old, who is currently valued at £24.3m according to Transfermarkt has made a total of 144 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists along the way.

Labelled as a “complete” player by former Monchengladbach manager Marco Rose, Zakaria has been likened to Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos in terms of his playing style by Lothar Matthaus.

If these reported whispers of interest were to come to fruition next month, not only would this give the Toffees the chance to sign a midfielder that has some Champions League experience under his belt, but it could also give them the chance to get rid of current Everton midfielder Andre Gomes at the same time.

With a significant injury record and an uninspiring overall season rating of 6.2/10 according to WhoScored, making him one of Everton’s lowest-rated players in the Premier League this season, it could be time to call an end to his time at Goodison Park, especially if they manage to secure the signing of Zakaria.

It’s not just this season that Gomes has failed to impress at Everton either with journalist Chris Beesley highlighting how much the midfielder was “struggling” in the team last season.

Taking all of this into account, Everton should definitely explore the possibility of signing Zakaria in January to see if he can perform alongside the likes of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure in their midfield and possibly bring an end to Gomes’ career with the Toffees if they are able to find a club that would be willing to buy him.

Liverpool still keen on signing Danjuma

Liverpool remain interested in signing Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma but a deal won’t happen in January, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Reds linked with Danjuma move

The Reds had a quiet summer transfer window and there may have been a feeling that an attacking signing was needed in order to add more depth in the final third.

Danjuma is one player who has been linked with a move to Anfield since then, having ended up staying put at Villarreal in the summer.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals and registered two assists in La Liga this season, making 10 starts in the division to date. He also found the net four times in six Champions League group stage appearances, making an impression in Europe’s premier club competition.

The Latest: Romano provides Danjuma update

Taking to Twitter on Christmas Day, Romano provided an update on the situation, confirming that Liverpool still see him as a potential transfer target but quashing any prospects of a move in next month’s transfer window.

He tweeted: “Danjuma will not leave Villarreal in January. Liverpool are among top clubs monitoring him for the future but there are no talks for January – he’s staying.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-15/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Strong squad option

Danujma is the perfect type of signing that Liverpool should be looking to make moving forward – someone already performing at a high level but who could become even more of a force under Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman has been hailed as ‘exceptional’ by Jonathan Woodgate following a two-year spell at Bournemouth, and two goals in five caps for Netherlands is a promising return.

Danjuma could come in and be a strong backup for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – at 24, he would also be a long-term signing, much in the same way that Liverpool’s African superstars were when they first came to Anfield.

Wolves: Bruno Lage offers Hwang update

Wolves manager Bruno Lage is confident that Hwang Hee-chan’s current injury won’t scupper a permanent move happening in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Hwang impresses on loan

The 25-year-old joined Wanderers on loan during the summer, making the move from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Hwang has impressed in the first half of the season, scoring four goals in 11 Premier League starts and forging a good understanding with Raul Jimenez.

Wolves have the chance to sign the South Korean on a permanent deal in the summer but they may need to seal a deal in January, with other clubs able to strike an agreement.

The Latest: Lage gives Hwang update

Speaking on Friday [via Express & Star], Lage said that Hwang’s current hamstring injury keeping him out until February is unlikely to throw a permanent transfer into doubt.

When asked if the body blow would scupper the club’s chances of signing him outright, the manager succinctly replied: “In my opinion, no.”

The Verdict: No-brainer for Wolves

Hwang may have had a slight dip in form, not scoring since October, but he has shown enough in his short Wolves career to suggest he would be an excellent permanent signing for the club. At 25, he should still have the peak years of his career ahead of him, and his versatility means that he can thrive both in a left-sided and central attacking role.

While Hwang’s quality in front of goal has stood out, he has also averaged 0.9 tackles and 1.4 fouls won per league game this season, showing he has a good team ethic and is willing to muck in defensively.

Frankly, a move to try and sign him outright is a no-brainer from an Old Gold perspective, given how he has performed under Lage so far.

Liverpool wish to ‘close’ Danjuma move

According to Spanish news source Fichajes, there has been a development as Liverpool eye a January swoop to sign Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma.

The Lowdown: Reds very keen…

As per multiple reports, manager Jurgen Klopp and owners Fenway Sports Group are apparently very keen on the former Bournemouth winger as a transfer target.

Indeed, reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano claims that he is a player Liverpool ‘love’ (Here We Go podcast via Rousing The Kop), while Football Insider revealed in September that the club have set their sights on signing him .

However, despite Romano claiming it could be ‘impossible’ to sign him this window (Here We Go podcast via Football Insider), Fichajes have now come out with some big news.

The Latest: Spanish source shares Danjuma update…

Liverpool boss Klopp has personally identified the Dutchman as a ‘new wish for the winter transfer market’, it is claimed.

The Reds also ‘want to close’ his signing ‘as soon as possible’ with FSG now having a ‘first offer ready’ to tempt his club into selling this month.

This offer, according to Fichajes, is said to be around €45 million (£37.5m).

The Verdict: Exciting update…

Given both star attackers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are now unavailable for Klopp due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations, this update comes as a potentially exciting bit of news.

Title rivals Manchester City appear to be running away with the Premier League crown as they currently sit 11 points clear of third place Liverpool, meaning the club will need all the help they can get to catch up Pep Guardiola’s side.

Danjuma, who has been in scintillating form for Villarreal this season, could be a fine addition – especially considering only Salah (4) and Mane (3.1) have averaged more shots at goal per 90 than the 24-year-old (3) out of Liverpool’s squad (WhoScored).

Speaking to the Official EFL podcast (via This is Futbol), former Middlesborough defender Jonathan Woodgate called the Netherlands ace an ‘exceptional player’ and we believe he could be a brilliant signing for Klopp if they can get it done in January.

NUFC: O’Rourke delivers Senesi claim

A Newcastle United transfer claim has been made, regarding a player they have on their list of targets this month…

What’s the talk?

Transfer insider Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Marcos Senesi is a defender the Magpies are looking at as they attempt to bolster their squad before the market closes.

He told Football FanCast: “Yeah, he’s someone that’s on their list. Newcastle have probably the longest list ever in a transfer window this January; a lot of players on it.”

Excited

Newcastle fans will surely be excited by this big claim as Senesi could be a shrewd addition to the squad for the second half of the campaign.

The 24-year-old has established himself as a top defender in the Eredivise since the start of last season and the defence is an area in which the Magpies need to strengthen significantly.

Norwich, who have played a game more, are the only team in the division with more goals conceded than Eddie Howe’s side and they have kept one clean sheet in the league, showing that they are in dire need of reinforcements at the back.

In Senesi, they could find a player who is able to come in and solve some of their problems. He has shown that he can deliver consistently brilliant performances for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, with an average SofaScore rating of 7.27 last term and 7.18 so far this season.

The Argentine defender has won 67% of his duels in the Dutch top-flight and made 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game from centre-back. This shows that he is strong in his individual battles and able to regularly win the ball back for his side, which is something he could do for Newcastle to improve their defensive record.

Therefore, fans will be excited by the prospect of him coming in before the window shuts. They will surely be buzzing to read that the club’s recruitment team are looking at talented young defenders who could come in and make an impact, whilst also holding the potential to improve further.

Howe could work with Sensei on the training pitch to hone his talent and develop him over the years, as he has plenty of time ahead of him at the age of 24. This is another reason why this deal could be an enthralling one for the fans and for the Toon as a whole.
