Liverpool fans pleased Adrian could leave

A number of Liverpool supporters have been showing their delight at the news that Adrian’s time at Anfield could come to an end this summer.

Things have gone relatively quiet on the Reds front for the time being, with some players on Euro 2020 duty and others enjoying some downtime after a long season. Jurgen Klopp will be working hard on perfecting his summer transfer business, though, with incomings and outgoings expected at Anfield.

One player whose future appears to be up in the air is Adrian, with the Spaniard proving to be an unconvincing understudy to Alisson.

Having made an impressive start to life on Merseyside, the 34-year-old’s form then began to dip, culminating in a terrible performance which all but single-handedly got Liverpool knocked out of the 2019/20 Champions League by Atletico Madrid. He was also culpable for some errors in the 7-2 drubbing at Villa Park last October.

According to ESPN, Adrian is ‘likely’ to leave the Reds for free this summer, with his contract at the club expiring.

Manchester United: Erik ten Hag to have £200m budget as four targets emerge

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will have a £200m budget this summer and has already got to work to create a four-man transfer shortlist.

The Lowdown: Ten Hag announced

The Red Devils finally announced the Dutchman as their new manager on Thursday morning.

Ten Hag was confirmed as Ralf Rangnick’s replacement from the end of this season, signing a deal through to June 2025 with an option of a further year.

The 52-year-old previously demanded to be 100% involved when it comes to new signings, and he has wasted no time by already having four possible marquee additions in mind.

The Latest: Four mega targets

The Mirror shared a story regarding Ten Hag and Manchester United shortly after the announcement, claiming the Red Devils will give their new manager £200m to spend ahead of his first season in charge.

Up to 12 players could leave the club, with Ten Hag placing Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Darwin Nunez and Ruben Neves at the top of his wishlist.

The Verdict: Rebuild begins

Plenty of change is needed at Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, but getting Ten Hag confirmed prior to the summer window is a good first step.

He’ll have a huge job on his hands in what looks set to be an extremely busy summer off the pitch and it looks as if a new midfielder and forward is crucial as he gets to work already.

Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani look set to be two players who will leave as free agents, so one of Kane or Nunez and Rice or Neves could be shrewd moves to replace the two outgoing big earners.

MCFC fans unhappy at Nmecha news

Manchester City fans are far from happy after it was revealed the Citizens will not offer Lukas Nmecha a new contract and will instead look to sell him this summer.

22-year-old Nmecha has been with City since 2007 and has progressed through the youth ranks into professional football. So far, he has managed just three appearances for City (Transfermarkt), but he is currently enjoying a fantastic loan campaign with Anderlecht in Belgium – he has managed 17 goals and three assists in 34 games in all competitions.

However, despite his impressive form, it seems the four-time Premier League winners are not eager to keep him at the club in the long-term. They are reportedly not interested in offering him a new deal and will look to move him at the end of the term – he is believed to be valued at just €8m (£7m).

This news was shared via Sport Witness on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the City supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Pundit confused as Henderson’s Liverpool contract talks stall

Paul Stewart is puzzled as to why Liverpool are struggling to tie Jordan Henderson down to a new deal.

The England midfielder has been on the Reds’ books since joining from Sunderland in a deal worth a reported £20million a decade ago.

He has gone on to captain the Merseyside club to their first ever Premier League title and also held the Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup and League Cup trophies aloft during his time at Anfield.

The 31-year-old has entered the final two years of his £140,000-per-week deal and his long-term future at the club now appears to be in doubt.

Liverpool have opened discussions with a host of players this summer but contract talks with Henderson have stalled.

It has resulted in the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid monitoring the situation, with them ready to open negotiations if Henderson fails to agree terms.

Former Liverpool man Stewart feels Henderson, who is currently training with La Liga club RCD Mallorca ahead of returning for the latter stages of pre-season at Liverpool, may have failed to have penned a new deal for a number of reasons.

He exclusively told Football FanCast: “It doesn’t seem right to me and I think there’s something underlying that we don’t know, which is why he is stalling on a contract.

“That could be for a few reasons. They may have offered him less money because of his age. He might want to go to China, where he could triple his wages. He might not be first choice in midfield, but only time will tell why he’s stalling on his contract.”

Everton fans react to Salomon Rondon rumour

Everton have been offered the chance to sign striker Salomon Rondon, according to Ekrem Konur.

The Venezuelan has experience of the Premier League after spells with West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United. The Baggies paid £15.3m to sign him from Zenit St Petersburg in 2015, and three years later he headed to Tyneside on a season-long loan.

Could Rondon link up with Benitez for a third time?

Rondon was managed by Rafael Benitez, now Everton’s manager, while at St James’ Park. He scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 33 games under the Spaniard’s tutelage at Newcastle, and they would later reunite at Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang in the summer of 2019.

He has played 140 Premier League games throughout his career, scoring 35 goals in the division to give him a return of one every four matches, which wouldn’t mark him out as a hugely prolific player.

Rondon, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at CSKA Moscow, is into the final 18 months of his contract with the club. The 31-year-old is valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt.

Everton could be in the market for a back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after Josh King left at the end of his contract.

Fan feed Toffee TV relayed the rumour, and here’s what some supporters made of it, with many unconvinced by Rondon.

Celtic: Howe not appealed by Crystal Palace

Celtic’s pursuit of Eddie Howe is now over six weeks old but we are finally coming towards a conclusion in this drawn-out saga.

The Hoops saw Neil Lennon resign back in February and since then they’ve been trying to convince the 43-year-old to come to Glasgow.

What’s the latest?

It was reported towards the end of last week that Howe would become the new manager of the Bhoys by talkSPORT.

However, we’ve heard no official word from Celtic yet that the former Bournemouth man will arrive in Glasgow.

That being said, the hierarchy have now received a massive boost in their bid to lure Howe to Scotland.

The Englishman was one of the favourites to succeed Roy Hodgson as manager of Crystal Palace but he reportedly flopped during the interview process.

Though, in a fresh update from the Daily Record, it’s claimed that he isn’t even interested in becoming the new manager at Selhurst Park.

McKay will be elated

This is a considerable boost to Celtic’s hopes of ensuring Howe is in the dugout at Paradise next season.

Up until this point, it looked as though the former Cherries boss was leaning towards a Premier League return.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-favre-mcgregor-mccann-tierney” title=”Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

His agent had convinced him he could get another job in England and with Hodgson leaving Palace, it seemed like the ideal opportunity, one he couldn’t really turn down.

You can hardly blame him either. The top-flight of English football is notoriously known as the best division in the world while the sheer amount of money involved in transfers would have been mouth-watering.

As Celtic know, it’s hard enough to convince their players to stay in Glasgow, let alone convince a sought-after manager to reject England and sign on the dotted line in Scotland.

With Howe wanting to bring a number of Bournemouth’s backroom staff with him, the Hoops will have to wait until their play-off campaign is done and dusted.

Once that’s concluded, it should be nothing more than a formality for McKay to conclude a deal.

After all, the biggest obstacle of them all – the chance to manage in the Premier League – has been eradicated.

Celtic chiefs should be able to rest a little easier now.

Southampton remain keen on Ryan Gauld

An update has emerged regarding Southampton’s interest in Farense midfielder Ryan Gauld this summer.

What’s the talk?

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, as transcribed by Hampshire Live, Southampton remain interested in a deal to sign the Scot this summer. The report claims that Saints bosses are looking at the 25-year-old as a potential signing to bolster Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.

Gauld’s contract with Farense expires next week and the former Sporting attacker could be available for Southampton to sign on a free transfer.

Last year, Farense head coach Sergio Vieira lauded the Scottish midfielder as an intelligent and competitive player. He said: “Ryan’s got quality in his passing and dribbling and he’s now shown he can score goals too.

“He’s aggressive and competitive, despite his smaller size and tactically very intelligent. I feel he’s the complete player and as a person, he’s humble, ambitious and self-determined. He’s been easy to deal with, always listening and ready to improve.”

He won’t cost a penny

Martin Semmens must make sure that he is able to seal a deal for Gauld this summer as it could be a shrewd piece of business by the club. As his contract at Farense is running out next week, Southampton have the chance to sign the midfielder without spending a single penny on transfer fees, which that they can avoid having to splash out on a lavish figure to improve their squad.

For example, if Gauld had a few years left on his contract, then the Portuguese club could have demanded several million pounds to part ways with his services.

In terms of how he fits into Southampton’s team on the pitch, his versatility could be a quality which stands out to Hasenhuttl.

He is capable of playing anywhere across the front line, as demonstrated by his displays in Liga NOS this season, and he is able to play in either attacking midfield position or as one of the two forwards in the Austrian’s setup. His positional flexibility could also allow Hasenhuttl to tweak his tactics in-game, another reason as to why Gauld could be a good signing.

Gauld enjoyed a terrific season with Farense in Portugal. He produced nine goals and seven assists from midfield, which only Danny Ings could better in the Southampton squad for direct goal contributions. This suggests that he could be an upgrade on what the Saints currently have in the attacking midfield positions, which is why Semmens needs to ensure that he is able to win the race for the Scot’s signature ahead of any other interested parties in the coming weeks.

Man Utd linked to Aurelien Tchouameni

Manchester United could secure the ideal midfield partner for Paul Pogba after being linked with a move for Monaco ace Aurelien Tchouameni.

What’s the story?

The Red Devils were reportedly interested in the highly-rated 21-year-old’s services over the summer, although no formal offer was ever made for the Frenchman.

Now though, according to The Express, United are one of three European heavyweights vying for Tchouameni’s signature after a string of impressive performances.

The report also states that fellow Premier League side Chelsea and Serie A giants Juventus are keen to snap up the youngster, meaning a bidding war could be on the horizon.

Imagine him & Paul Pogba

After rising up through the ranks at boyhood club Bordeaux, Tchouameni joined Monaco in a big-money move in January 2020 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

The youngster made 42 appearances in all competitions for Niko Kovac’s charges last season, scoring three goals and providing a further four assists for his teammates.

However, it’s his work off the ball that really catches the eye. As per WhoScored, Tchouameni averaged a whopping 3.5 tackles per league game in 2020/21, by far the highest tally amongst his teammates.

He also made 1.7 interceptions, the joint-highest total when compared to his teammates, and the £27m-rated colossus not only dominated proceedings on the ground but in the air as well, winning 67% of his aerial duels.

Tchouameni’s domineering displays have caught the eye of several impressed onlookers, including current Monaco teammate Cesc Fabregas, who praised the youngster.

“He has the potential to be a complete midfield player,” the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea maestro wrote on Twitter. And now his compatriot and United star Paul Pogba has lauded his talents.

“He’s not a boy; he’s a man. It’s a pleasure to play next to him; he provides a lot, plenty of energy, technical quality and extraordinary physicality. I hope to play plenty of games together and always be on his side,” the World Cup winner said.

Tchouameni got the ideal opportunity to show just how effective his partnership with Pogba could be at Old Trafford after lining up alongside him during France’s National League final victory over Spain.

The duo worked extremely effectively throughout the 90 minutes, with the United star enjoying the attacking freedom that his more disciplined colleague allowed him.

It’s a duo that has the potential to transform Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stuttering engine room, and therefore, football director John Murtough must swoop for Tchouameni over the coming months.

Everton transfer news on Thuram

Some Everton fans have been left buzzing as some transfer news emerged on Marcus Thuram.

As per Calciomercato, the Goodison Park faithful are now interested in signing the Borussia Monchengladbach ace, but will face competition from both Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund for his signature.

Thuram has had a exceptional past couple of seasons, reaching double figures in terms of goals in all competitions, while also achieving no fewer than 21 assists (Transfermarkt), very impressive numbers indeed for a wide player.

At 24 years of age, the France international has likely not yet reached his full potential, and perhaps now would be the best time for the Merseyside club to pounce.

Nonetheless, he would certainly give competition to the likes of Andros Townsend and Demarai Grey for a starting spot on the wing.

Freddie Woodman rejects Leeds United move

Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has turned down a summer move to Leeds United, according to a new report which emerged on Wednesday morning.

The Lowdown: Leeds eye up Casilla replacement

Marcelo Bielsa is on the lookout for a second-choice goalkeeper this summer, following Kiko Casilla’s season-long loan move to Elche.

While Illan Meslier remains the clear first-choice between the sticks, having an able deputy is important, should the Frenchman get injured.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359346″]

The Latest: Woodman rejects Whites move

According to Football Insider, Newcastle stopper Woodman has turned down the opportunity to join Leeds, with the 24-year-old thought to be one of three targets between the sticks.

A Thorp Arch source has claimed the Whites intended to sign the Englishman on loan, with a view to making the move permanent further down the line.

Woodman’s desire to be first-choice somewhere appears to be the key reason behind him rejecting the switch.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-9/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Would have been ideal

This is a setback for Leeds, with the £9million-rated Newcastle man a perfect backup to Meslier, having made 88 Championship appearances in his career, including playing every single league match for Swansea last season.

Granted, he has no Premier League experience as a starter, but he has played enough football to fill in for Meslier when, or if, required.

Leeds now need to move on, however, acquiring a similarly suitable second-choice option ahead of next season. As it stands, one injury to Meslier would leave the goalkeeping depth worryingly thin.

In other news, Leeds are interested in signing a Premier League ‘big six’ player this summer. Find out who it is here.
