Tottenham: Report shares big Richarlison update

A report out of Italy has now shared quite an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Everton star Richarlison.

The Lowdown: Conte eyes move…

The Brazil international and Premier League striker is reliably believed to be on the Spurs agenda this summer as manager Antonio Conte chases an alternative to superstar player Harry Kane.

Reports have suggested that the Lilywhites could speed up talks for Richarlison with ‘decisive days’ ahead, coming after journalist David Ornstein claimed ‘some’ at Everton think a transfer is inevitable.

Now, as per CalciomercatoWeb.it, a big update has come to light.

The Latest: Tottenham closing in…

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

According to their information, reporting due to Juventus and Milan’s interest, Richarlison’s arrival at Spurs is ‘ever closer’ and talks are at an ‘advanced’ stage for the 25-year-old, acting as a blow for the Serie A duo.

In perhaps the most surprising claim, the report states that his signing could ‘take place’ for just €40 million (£35m).

The Verdict: Major claim…

This comes as a major claim out of Spurs, particularly, when it comes to the price tag.

While it is arguably unlikely that the north Londoners will end up securing Richarlison for £35m, we believe the South American’s arrival is worth a potentially higher offer regardless.

Finishing 2021/2022 as Everton’s top goal scorer and best-performing player by average match rating, the striker is a proven top flight threat, having also attempted their most shots at goal per 90 last season (WhoScored).

It’s little wonder Richarlison has been called one of the Goodison Park side’s ‘big name’ players (Noel Whelan, Football Insider) and signing him for Conte would undoubtedly strengthen the Italian’s attacking options.

Aston Villa linked with Yannick Carrasco

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco recently and the Belgian could be a superb addition to Steven Gerrard’s side.

What’s the word?

According to Spanish news outlet Sport (17:57 in live blog), Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are all interested in the 28-year-old this summer, with a departure from the Wanda Metropolitano seemingly on the cards.

They claim that Newcastle United see him as their main target this summer but Villa and Spurs are also potential bidders, with all three sides undoubtedly targeting European qualification next season.

Coutinho 2.0?

Carrasco would be another huge name for Villa to bring in this summer, having already secured the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho following his impressive loan spell last season.

Like the mini-Brazilian, Carrasco has experience at the very top, having regularly appeared for Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, while he also has won the Europa League and La Liga during his time with Los Colchoneros.

Last season saw the Belgium international contribute six goals and six assists for Atletico, averaging an impressive 7.08 rating from WhoScored for his performances in the top-flight.

This was a better return than any winger in Villa’s squad last season in terms of both goals and assists, so he could definitely add some quality in Gerrard’s side next season.

Diego Simeone was full of praise for the winger after he arrived from AS Monaco, saying:

“Carrasco is growing based on the effort he made to suit the characteristics of the team,” he said. “We’re happy [about] his performance. Goals [are] his speciality.

“He’s a guy who is used to scoring important goals. He is a player that has certain attributes, that [is] why he is at Atletico.”

Previous reports have suggested that Villa will need to spend up to £50m to bring in Carrasco this summer but if he could have a similar impact to Coutinho, who was only behind Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins in terms of goal contributions last season despite joining in January, then he would surely be worth the risk.

Celtic still trying to sign Jota and Carter-Vickers permanently

Celtic are still hot on the pursuit to sign former loan stars Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis this summer, claims Record Sport.

The Lowdown: Successful loans

Both players enjoyed massively successful loan spells at the Glasgow outfit during the 2021/22 season.

Having arrived from Portuguese giants Benfica, Jota scored seven goals and produced eight assists in 24 league appearances for the Hoops. As a result, the 23-year-old was rated Celtic’s third most valuable player this season, with a stunning 7.56 SofaScore rating.

Arriving on loan from Premier league side Tottenham, Carter-Vickers played 33 games in the Scottish Premiership, where he contributed to the side’s Championship winning campaign with 4.2 clearances and 1.2 interceptions per game, earning himself a 7.33 match rating (via SofaScore).

The Latest: Celtic still in pursuit

According to Record Sport, Celtic are continuing in their pursuit to sign former loanees Jota and Carter-Vickers. Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou personally wants the pair signed up on a permanent basis.

It is understood that a £6.5m fee was included in Jota’s loan agreement from Benfica, whilst Carter-Vickers is available for an initial £6m, with future add-ons raising the price to £10m.

The Verdict: Good signings

Having formed a core component of Postecoglou’s dominant Premiership winning side, it is clear to see why the Hoops boss is so keen on a reunion with the pair at Celtic Park.

Carter-Vickers was instrumental in Celtic’s back-line, demonstrated by comparisons made to positional peers across Europe, where he ranked in the 84th percentile for aerials won and in the 82nd percentile for interceptions made over the past year (via FB Ref).

Jota was equally important to the Hoops, having finished the season as the side’s top assister. His 2.7 shots and 1.7 dribbles per game added a direct threat to Postecoglou’s attack, with the Glasgow side scoring an emphatic 92 goals in the league this season.

If Celtic can get these signings over the line, they could prove to be more important than any other signings this summer.

West Ham: Journalist shares Cornet transfer update

Journalists Toby Cudworth and Graeme Bailey of 90min have now shared a West Ham United transfer update involving Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet.

The Lowdown: Moyes steps up talks…

Hammers boss David Moyes is reportedly stepping up transfer talks as he plots a summer overhaul in east London, with the club recently confirming four exits (The Evening Standard).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-developments-5/” title=”West Ham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It is believed that club owners GSB will back their manager who is reportedly keen on bringing in a striker, central midfielder and left-back ‘high on the agenda’ (The Evening Standard).

However, the Premier League side are also in contention to sign Clarets star Cornet as clubs take note due to a special clause in the player’s contract.

The Latest: 90min share update…

As per 90min, Moyes and West Ham are ‘eyeing a move’ for the Ivory Coast international who is seriously in demand – with Newcastle, Brighton, Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Leicester, Fulham, Arsenal and Tottenham also mentioned.

Cornet has a £17.5m release clause written into his five-year contract which became active once the Turf Moor side were relegated – prompting this huge interest.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Scoring a career total of 61 goals, Man City boss Pep Guardiola was once left blown away by Cornet having been ‘very impressed’ by his performance for Lyon against the Sky Blues.

Finishing the 2021/2022 season as Burnley’s top goal scorer with nine in the top flight, was by far their most-threatening player and also attempted the most shots at goal per 90 on average (WhoScored).

The 25-year-old still has many years ahead of him at the top level and for just £17.5m it could be a very shrewd move, leaving little wonder West Ham have joined the race.

Man United plot move for Jurrien Timber

As we head into the final day of the Premier League season it is clear Manchester United have already shifted the focus onto their transfer business this summer, with a new update emerging on a transfer target.

What’s the latest?

According to journalist Jonathan Shrager, Man United are now “frontrunners” to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber in the upcoming transfer window.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

Shrager tweeted:

“At this moment, Timber to Manchester United is not done, and there is competition from other clubs, but Jurrien’s representation is currently in England to learn about MUFC’s plans.”

Following up with a second tweet to confirm;

“There is a belief that Manchester United are currently the frontrunners to sign Jurrien Timber.”

Ten Hag needs him

There is no doubt that Man United are crying out for changes in the team after yet another disappointing season for the supporters, with the club now falling into its longest trophy drought for 40 years.

One area that has come under major scrutiny is the defensive players in the squad, and when you consider the fact that the Red Devils have conceded the eighth most goals out of the 20 Premier League teams this season, more than newly promoted Brentford and relegation battling Burnley, it is clear that Erik ten Hag needs to sign Timber this summer.

The £35m ace who was hailed a “great leader” by Ten Hag, has been a dominating force for Ajax in their second consecutive title-winning season scoring three goals and assisting twice, with an astonishing 90.8 touches on average per game, winning the majority of his duels (67%) and making 2.4 tackles, 1.4 clearances and 1.7 interceptions per game.

These statistics prove just how much of a threat and presence Timber can be at just 20 years of age, he identifies as the type of player that Man United desperately need to dominate and lead the backline to inspire better performances and ultimately put the side in a position to compete at the highest level again.

Bayern Munich are also linked with wanting to sign the Dutch defender this summer and although Man United should be at an advantage with his former coach holding the reigns at Old Trafford they will need to move fast to not lose out to the Bundesliga side who, unlike the North West club, will play Champions League football next season.

Tottenham: ESPN break Perisic transfer development

According to broadcast giant ESPN, a very interesting transfer development has now come out Tottenham Hotspur involving Inter Milan forward Ivan Perisic.

The Lowdown: Conte eyes attacking upgrade…

Spurs manager Antonio Conte, having guided his side to within touching distance of a previously unthought of top-four finish in the Premier League, also sets one eye on the looming transfer window.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Times claim he wants as many as six major signings in the summer ‘at least’ with eight Lilywhites players potentially heading out the exit door.

Sergio Reguilón, Emerson Royal, Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele could be given Conte’s axe among others and it is believed that the 52-year-old wants to bring in a new forward.

The Latest: Perisic development emerges…

Now, as per big name broadcaster ESPN and their reporter James Olley on Twitter, the north Londoners are ‘exploring a deal to sign’ Perisic from Inter as they eye a Bosman move.

Spurs have apparently made contact over the 33-year-old with the US news outlet also reporting that he is open to reuniting with former boss Conte at N17.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Even at 33, Perisic has been integral at the San Siro this season, with former midfielder Fausto Pizzi calling the Croatian ‘incredible’ with ‘no others’ like him in the Italian top flight (via TUTTOmercatoWEB).

A mainstay under Simone Inzaghi, only teammate Hakan Calhanoglu has averaged a higher match-rating per 90 than Perisic as Inter’s ace stands out as one of their top performers (WhoScored).

Landing the attacker on a free deal could come as quite a brilliant quick-fix for Spurs in the forward positions for around one-two seasons before a more permanent solution can be found.

Liverpool make an approach for Antony

Liverpool are having a phenomenal season with the club still in contention for another two trophies after winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup already.

They are reportedly working on their summer transfer business already and now an update on a potential transfer target has emerged.

What’s the latest?

According to a report from Portuguese news outlet UOL (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are competing with Manchester United to sign Brazil and Ajax winger Antony this summer.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

The report suggests that the Merseyside club are in ‘dispute’ with their fierce North West rivals, as both clubs have made an approach to secure the signing of the player.

Liverpool and Manchester United will also reportedly compete with another Premier League club for the forward with Newcastle United mentioned in the report.

Klopp would love him

Despite the attacking prowess at Liverpool being a formidable force this season, there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp would love Antony especially when you look at his output this season for Ajax.

The £50m ace who was dubbed “wonderful” and a “winner” by Dutch football scout Piet de Visser, has scored eight goals and registered four assists, creating seven big chances as well as making 1.7 key passes and taking 3.4 shots on goal on average per game in his 23 appearance in the Eredivisie this season.

Liverpool have a number of ageing forwards with Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane all entering their 30s this year, so injecting some more youth into the forward line with a player like Antony who is currently just 22-years-old and planning for the future could pay off massively for Klopp.

In terms of competing with Manchester United for the signing, despite the club recently hiring Antony’s former manager Erik ten Hag there is a lot of work to do and no Champions League football at Old Trafford next season, whereas Liverpool are competing consistently at the highest level and winning trophies.

Ultimately, if the reports are true and Liverpool are interested in signing the Brazilian then they should be able to make an attractive offer that should have enough to convince the youngster to join the club on Merseyside over a move to Manchester this summer.

Celtic have Ola Solbakken on their "radar"

A teasing Celtic transfer claim has emerged ahead of the upcoming summer window…

What’s the talk?

Transfer insider Pete O’Rourke has hinted at the club being interested in a deal to sign Bodo/Glimt right winger Ola Solbakken to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the 2022/23 campaign.

He told This Is Fubol: “Yeah, he’s done well for Bodo/Glimt and obviously Celtic will be well aware of the player having come across him in Europe this season when they knocked Celtic out.

“So it’s definitely somebody that will be on their radar from that I’m sure the Celtic fans will have been impressed what they’ve seen in him as well.”

Postecoglou will be excited

The Hoops head coach will surely be excited by this update as Solbakken would be an excellent addition to his squad this summer.

As O’Rourke explained, Celtic fans – and Postecoglou – will already know what he is capable of. He managed a goal and an assist in his two UEFA Conference League matches against the club earlier this year as his side knocked the Hoops out of the competition.

The winger enjoyed an excellent campaign in Europe for Bodo/Glimt as he produced six goals and two assists in 11 games, averaging a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.40. This shows that he is capable of consistently delivering quality performances at that level – chipping in with goals and assists on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, Josip Juranovic (7.80) was the only Celtic player who averaged a higher rating in the competition than the Norweigan attacker.

Solbakken has also excelled domestically for his team. Since the start of 2021, he has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 29 starts – averaging a rating of 7.18 last year. He averaged 1.7 key passes per game in 2021 as he proven that he can be the go-to creator for his team from out wide.

At the age of 23, he also has the potential to improve. Postecoglou can work with him on the training pitch to help him hone his skills to ensure that he develops in the coming years, which means that he can be an investment for Celtic whilst also being a player who can make an impact in the short term.

Therefore, the head coach will be excited by the club’s interest in Solbakken and will surely be hoping that a deal can be agreed in the coming weeks or months.

QPR: James Rowberry in contention for managerial vacancy

Newport County boss James Rowberry is said to have emerged as the top contender to take over the managerial vacancy at QPR, according to a report published by Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Warburton’s departure

Rangers have recently confirmed that Mark Warburton will be leaving the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium at the end of the season when his contract expires, following a disappointing season in the Championship, having missed out on a place in the play-offs.

The west London outfit are now said to be looking at potential candidates to replace the 59-year-old in a bid to aim for the top six next campaign, and after a new update, it seems as though the hierarchy may have already found the man that they have been searching for.

The Latest: Rangers identify Rowberry

A QPR source has revealed to Football Insider that the club want to appoint a head coach rather than a manager, and firmly believe that Rowberry ‘fits the bill’ of the profile that they want to take over the reins.

The Welshman is said to be ‘highly regarded’ within the football circles, after becoming one of the youngest ever coaches to achieve his pro licence through UEFA’s top qualification at the age of just 29.

He even held coaching courses for the likes of Marcel Desailly, David Ginola, Patrick Vieira, Jens Lehmann, Sol Campbell.

The Verdict: Ideal candidate

Now 37, Rowberry accepted his first solo managerial position when he joined the League Two Exiles back in 2021, and has previously worked under the likes of Mick McCarthy and Neil Warnock during his time on the coaching staff at Cardiff City.

The Hoops target initially managed to turn his Newport squad into promotion contenders, but ended up just falling short, having failed to secure a play-off place after suffering three losses in their last four games.

If Rowberry could create the same team spirit and fight at QPR then he could well be the right man to take on in the dugout, in the hope that Rangers will be making a serious push to make a return to the Premier League next season.

West Ham UEL team news: Ben Johnson could miss Frankfurt

David Moyes has delivered some important West Ham injury news ahead of their upcoming Europa League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

The Lowdown: Missing from the matchday squad

The Irons recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League in their race for a top-six finish, but first team regular Ben Johnson appeared to be missing from the starting XI and wasn’t even occupying a seat on the bench, with teammate Vladimir Coufal taking his place.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-newest-updates/” title=”West Ham newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form under Moyes this season so it was a surprise to see him not named in the match-day squad, however, it’s now been revealed that there was a very good reason as to why.

The Latest: Injury concern

The Athletic correspondent Roshane Thomas shared the news in a Twitter post, revealing: “Moyes says Ben Johnson has a thigh strain.”

Johnson joins a long list of defensive injuries at the London Stadium including Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna.

The Verdict: A massive blow

If the versatile wing-back is unavailable for selection in the second leg against the Bundesliga outfit, then this would come as a huge blow for the Scottish manager who needs all of his experienced defenders accessible to him, should the Irons have any chance of turning the tie around.

Despite Johnson only making 16 top-flight starts this term, he has been an absolute rock at the back for the Hammers, averaging 2.7 clearances, 1.8 tackles, and 1.2 interceptions per 90 minutes, via WhoScored.

Dubbed a “brilliant” player by pundit Paul Robinson since making his stamp on the first team, the £2.5k-per-week ace would be hugely missed if not declared fully fit in time, but will hopefully come back into contention for his side as soon as possible.

In other news… a BBC pundit has backed West Ham to make a move for a Championship starlet who could ‘do a Jarrod Bowen’.
