– A expectativa é a melhor possível.

Players distance themselves from CSA spat

South African players, through the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA), have distanced themselves from the ongoing spat between CSA chief executive Gerald Majola and the body’s president Mtutzeli Nyoka

Firdose Moonda10-Sep-2011South African players, through the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA), have distanced themselves from the ongoing spat between CSA chief executive Gerald Majola and the body’s president Mtutzeli Nyoka. This comes after CSA said on Friday, at the conclusion of its annual conference, that the national team said Nyoka was a “poor example” because he allegedly breached CSA’s media protocol.”The players are not involved in this issue and have expressed no views in favour of, or against, one side or the other,” Tony Irish, SACA chief executive said. “There have been no letters or statements by the players or by SACA as suggested in some reports.”A letter, written by national team manager, Mohammad Moosajee was presented to the board at their special general meeting on September 8, about his concerns. Moosajee said that he was worried about enforcing protocols and holding the players accountable for their actions in the media if the most senior office bearer of the body is not doing the same. While not stating it explicitly, Moosajee was referring to incidents that have taken place over the past year in the national media. This includes an interview that Nyoka gave to Johannesburg’s biggest talk-radio station, 702, in January in which he called Majola a “liar” and accused him of being dishonest about the IPL bonuses that were paid to Majola and 40 CSA staff. Nyoka has also made various references to corruption in cricket and South African society. The latest development in the CSA saga is a second motion of no confidence in Nyoka, which was tabled at the same meeting. The first attempt to oust the president took place on the eve of the World Cup in February and was said to be a distraction to the players as they entered an important tournament. The national players have not commented on the issue but Moosajee, as manager of the team, has penned the letter to express his concern about the potential for setting a poor media example. He confirmed that the players have “nothing to do with the letter.”Irish said that although the players are not involving themselves in the saga, they would like to see it reach a speedy conclusion. “SACA and the players do however appeal to the leaders within CSA to do whatever they can to resolve the current differences within the organisation in order to prevent further damage to the game.”

O duelo contra o Emelec será o reencontro do time com a torcida no torneio.

Sangakkara eyeing all-Asian final

Kumar Sangakkara has said that Sri Lanka have every chance of making it an all-subcontinental final in the 2011 World Cup

Sa'adi Thawfeeq at the Premadasa27-Mar-2011Kumar Sangakkara has said that Sri Lanka have every chance of making it an all-subcontinental final in the World Cup if “we keep our heads down and make sure we cover all the bases we have to cover”.One team from the subcontinent has made every final since 1992, and with India taking on Pakistan in the other semi-final, that trend will continue. But if Sri Lanka can beat New Zealand in the other semi-final in Colombo on March 29, it will mark the first final to feature two Asian teams.”We’ve shown everyone what a good side we are and to do that we got to play good cricket.” Sangakkara said. “Psychological advantages and all of that comes second place when it comes to playing proper cricket and good performance on the field. On Asian pitches fitness counts a lot, that’s one of the major factors you got to reckon playing in this heat.”One of the things that have worked for Sri Lanka is their spin department headed by Muthiah Muralitharan, who is playing his last World Cup before retiring from one-day cricket. The team sacrificed the pace of Nuwan Kulasekara and went with three frontline spinners against England, and the combination turned out to be the correct one.”Playing three spinners proved successful.” Sangakkara said. “All the bowlers bowled well to get wickets. We made the decision in the last minute to play three spinners. Today the wicket had dried out very nicely so it made the decision very much easier.”Spin is our strength but at the same time we had some wonderful fast bowlers coming through over the last two years like Lasith Malinga, Kulasekara, Dilhara Fernando, all these guys have a part to play depending on the opposition and the wickets. We try and keep ourselves unpredictable as a bowling side in this kind of tournament. We got the variety in our attack to do that.”Sangakkara also praised his openers, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga, who both made centuries as Sri Lanka chased 230 without losing a wicket. “It requires special performance to win big games and in that aspect Dilshan and Tharanga combined to give that little spark of inspiration. They were absolutely magnificent and ruthless.”They were cramping up a bit and they could have thrown it away at that time but it shows how hungry they were to do well and finish it off when they had that opportunity.”Dilshan opened the bowling as well and Sangakkara said it was a deliberate strategy to target the England captain. “He [Dilshan] bowls very well to left-handers and sometimes makes the new ball turn. With Andrew Strauss being a left-hander and not having a great history against spin our first option was to throw the ball to Dilshan and see whether he can do something for us. He did and on the field he’s been the best in this whole tournament and his batting was just unbelievable. Today he showed as the guy who shouldered most of the responsibilities from start to finish”Sangakkara stated that his side needed to improve their fielding after three easy catches were put down off Eoin Morgan, who went on to score a fifty.”We got brush up on our fielding and make sure that we don’t give the opposition that many chances especially one batsman and one of their key players,” Sangakkara said. “Except for the three catches the rest of the fielding was pretty good. Missing catches you can’t do anything about. If you miss a catch you should not let your body language go negative but stay positive and look for the next opportunity and keep charging in and stay in the game.”Sangakkara also said that Muralitharan would be okay for the semi-final clash against New Zealand. “He’s pulled up stiff. He’s had a tough couple of weeks and hopefully we’ll have him 100% for our next game.”

Spurs set for Joao Palhinha transfer boost

Tottenham Hotspur could be set for a huge boost in their attempts to land the signing of Joao Palhinha this summer, as the price tag of the Sporting Lisbon star plummets.

The Lowdown: Spurs’ interest in Palhinha

According to a story published by O Jogo last week [via Sport Witness], it was claimed that Antonio Conte’s outfit are currently monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation in Portugal and are eyeing the signing of a player in his midfield position ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

It still looks highly likely that the Lisbon club are planning on selling the 12-cap international at the end of the season, but following a new update, it seems as though Sporting are resigned to the fact that they might have to let him leave for less than they initially wanted.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Huge price reduction

In a fresh article by Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness), it has been reported that Palhinha is at the ‘top of the list’ to depart the Primeira Liga club, with the previous demand of the €40m (£33.5m) price tag now seeming ‘impossible’ to be reached by those interested.

The source added that Sporting are set to reduce the asking fee to €30m (£25.1m), resulting in an appealing price drop of just over £8m.

The Verdict: Get it done

The £23.4m-rated talent has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Ruben Amorim’s side this term, netting three goals in that time (as per Transfermarkt), but he hasn’t had the best campaign, with injuries and suspensions prompting multiple spells out of the team.

As a result, Palhinha has lost his place in the Portugal national team, so it’s little wonder that Sporting have been left with no choice but to decrease their asking price for the 26-year-old.

Nonetheless, having once described as an “aggressive” player by former Sporting and Manchester United winger Nani, the 6 foot 2 maestro could be a worthy prospective capture for Spurs, and now would be the perfect time to make a move for him given the reduction in his asking price.

Zaheer Khan ruled out of Nagpur Test

India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the deciding third Test against New Zealand in Nagpur due to a groin strain and left-arm seamer Jaidev Unadkat has been called in as his replacement

ESPNcricinfo staff16-Nov-2010India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the deciding third Test against New Zealand in Nagpur due to a groin strain. Left-arm seamer Jaidev Unadkat has been called in as his replacement. The injury resulted in Zaheer missing a good part of the fourth day of the second Test in Hyderabad, where he left the field during New Zealand’s second innings, and the bulk of the fifth day when he bowled just three overs. The decision to leave him out of the third Test is a precautionary measure.Zaheer’s absence was felt in Hyderabad as India struggled to make inroads and New Zealand, led by Brendon McCullum, steered the Test to a draw. Zaheer had triggered India’s fightback in the first innings after New Zealand had taken the first-day honours, and helped bowl the visitors out for 350. His injury means Ishant Sharma could be drafted in for the final game to partner Sreesanth, who picked up four wickets in the Hyderabad Test.Unadkat, who will take Zaheer’s place in the squad, represents Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy and has picked up 26 wickets in six first-class games at an average of 26.34

Rangers team news: Barisic out, Jack in

This is part of The Transfer Tavern’s Talking Tactics series, where we analyse two changes the manager should make in their upcoming fixture.

Glasgow Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst simply must get a reaction out of his players after the embarrassing 3-0 loss at the hands of their bitter rivals, and that may even mean making bold calls that could upset both players and some fans.

They face another test at home to third-placed Hearts on Sunday afternoon, and the Dutchman cannot afford to leave Ibrox with anything less than three points.

Injury updates

The talk of the town in Glasgow ever since Transfer Deadline Day has been the arrival of Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus, a player who has won numerous big titles with both the Juventus and Arsenal.

He could potentially make his debut against Hearts, with Gio confirming in his pre-game press conference that his fitness will be assessed.

Alfredo Morelos is also available after coming back from international duty with Colombia, and so the manager needs to decide whether to throw him in straight away as well.

Barisic out

Barisic quite frankly endured a first-half nightmare against Celtic, so much so that he was hauled off at half-time.

The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell claimed that he was ‘fast asleep’ for the Hoops’ third goal, for which Liel Abada managed to sneak in past him unmarked and unchallenged.

BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer, Tom English, even went as far as to claim that he looked ‘punch-drunk’, testament to a player who gave the ball away a total of nine times in just 45 minutes.

Leon Balogun, who replaced the Croatia international at half-time, would be the obvious choice to come in, with Calvin Bassey moving to his more natural position at left-back.

Jack in

Speaking after the match, Gio claimed that Jack was ‘the best man on the pitch in the second half’, saying that he ‘changed’ the game and ‘made a big difference’ (Rangers TV via Yahoo).

Indeed, the 29-year-old was ranked as the Teddy Bears’ joint-best (7.1) player on SofaScore despite only playing the second half, as he recorded 55 touches of the ball from the middle of the park, more than starters Scott Arfield (52) and Glen Kamara (34), and achieved an impressive 90% pass accuracy, the fifth-highest in the team.

He has not yet started a game for the Light Blues so far this season, and Hearts would offer the perfect opportunity for Gio to rectify that, despite the arrival of fellow midfielder Ramsey.

With only a 6.4 SofaScore rating, and having just come back from African Cup of Nations (AFCON) duty with Nigeria, Aribo would perhaps be the unlucky one to drop out, but would at least offer Gio some quality from the bench if things are going wrong on the pitch again.

Celtic backed to sign Carter-Vickers

Celtic will complete the permanent signing of centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers this summer, according to Tottenham insider John Wenham, but it will cost them three times the 2021 price.

The Lowdown: Carter-Vickers shines on loan

The 24-year-old made a temporary move to Parkhead last summer, with Spurs unable to promise him regular time due to being down the pecking order in north London.

Carter-Vickers has been superb for Celtic throughout this season, making 27 Scottish Premiership starts and shining alongside Carl Starfelt.

The American saved arguably his best performance of the campaign for Sunday’s 2-1 win at Rangers, as he scored the winning goal and defended resolutely, being hailed as ‘immense’ by Chris Sutton.

The Latest: Price has trebled since last year

Speaking to Football Insider, Wenham firmly believes Carter-Vickers’ permanent move to the Hoops will go through this summer:

“Yeah, it’s simple, it just requires Celtic to transfer Tottenham £6million, it’s as simple as that. The player would want it and both clubs want it so there shouldn’t be any problems.

“They could have done it in the summer but the loan has been perfect for Tottenham. We would have let him go for £2million but we have trebled that price based on his performances.

“I couldn’t be happier with how it has gone because he plays pretty much every game up there. Cameron just isn’t at the level to play for Spurs so I am more than happy to move him on and bank that £6million fee.”

This aligns with a report from The Daily Record, who believe the Hoops will fend off competition from Leicester City, Wolves and Burnley thanks to the player’s preference to stay in Glasgow.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-23/” title=”Celtic updates!!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Ideal for all parties

Some transfers can feel risky but this one looks like a match made in heaven, with all parties benefiting from Carter-Vickers trading Spurs for Celtic.

It would allow the player himself to settle at a new club that he already knows well, maturing into a formidable player and hopefully inspiring them to many trophies down the years.

Meanwhile, Spurs will be happy to get Carter-Vickers off their wage bill, with first-team opportunities looking hard to come by under Antonio Conte.

In other news, Chris Sutton has heaped praise on a Celtic ‘magician’. Find out who it is here.
