Everton fans react to Salomon Rondon rumour

Everton have been offered the chance to sign striker Salomon Rondon, according to Ekrem Konur.

The Venezuelan has experience of the Premier League after spells with West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United. The Baggies paid £15.3m to sign him from Zenit St Petersburg in 2015, and three years later he headed to Tyneside on a season-long loan.

Could Rondon link up with Benitez for a third time?

Rondon was managed by Rafael Benitez, now Everton’s manager, while at St James’ Park. He scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 33 games under the Spaniard’s tutelage at Newcastle, and they would later reunite at Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang in the summer of 2019.

He has played 140 Premier League games throughout his career, scoring 35 goals in the division to give him a return of one every four matches, which wouldn’t mark him out as a hugely prolific player.

Rondon, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at CSKA Moscow, is into the final 18 months of his contract with the club. The 31-year-old is valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt.

Everton could be in the market for a back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after Josh King left at the end of his contract.

Fan feed Toffee TV relayed the rumour, and here’s what some supporters made of it, with many unconvinced by Rondon.

Pundit confused as Henderson’s Liverpool contract talks stall

Paul Stewart is puzzled as to why Liverpool are struggling to tie Jordan Henderson down to a new deal.

The England midfielder has been on the Reds’ books since joining from Sunderland in a deal worth a reported £20million a decade ago.

He has gone on to captain the Merseyside club to their first ever Premier League title and also held the Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup and League Cup trophies aloft during his time at Anfield.

The 31-year-old has entered the final two years of his £140,000-per-week deal and his long-term future at the club now appears to be in doubt.

Liverpool have opened discussions with a host of players this summer but contract talks with Henderson have stalled.

It has resulted in the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid monitoring the situation, with them ready to open negotiations if Henderson fails to agree terms.

Former Liverpool man Stewart feels Henderson, who is currently training with La Liga club RCD Mallorca ahead of returning for the latter stages of pre-season at Liverpool, may have failed to have penned a new deal for a number of reasons.

He exclusively told Football FanCast: “It doesn’t seem right to me and I think there’s something underlying that we don’t know, which is why he is stalling on a contract.

“That could be for a few reasons. They may have offered him less money because of his age. He might want to go to China, where he could triple his wages. He might not be first choice in midfield, but only time will tell why he’s stalling on his contract.”

Manicaland post their second consecutive victory in Bulawayo

Manicaland posted their second consecutive victory when they handed Matabeleland their second defeat in a row after beating them by three wickets on the fourth day of their Logan Cup match at Queens Sports Club on Monday

Mehluli Sibanda28-Oct-2002Manicaland posted their second consecutive victory when they handed Matabeleland their second defeat in a row after beating them by three wickets on the fourth day of their Logan Cup match at Queens Sports Club on Monday. In a close finish, Manicaland lost seven wickets in their way to scoring 134 in 35 overs, with one over to spare. This was after Matabeleland in their follow-on had taken the lead after scoring 350 in 104.5 overs, with Barney Rogers recording his maiden first-class century.Matabeleland resumed on 152 for three on the last day with Rogers and Hoffman the two men at the crease. Rogers raeched his 50 off 76 balls, smashing ten fours. Their partnership was not to last, for Hoffman departed for 21 when he was dismissed by Gary Brent in the fourth over of the day, caught behind by wicketkeeper Neil Ferreira.Medium-pacer Blessing Mahwire took his first wicket when he dismissed Nkala for 19 with Ferreira taking another catch behind. Matabeleland had hopes of salvaging the game when Gavin Ewing, who put up a brilliant show with the bat in the first innings, joined Rogers. This was the partnership that could carry the day for Matabeleland. The two put up 33 for the sixth wicket before Ewing was trapped leg before wicket by spinner Richard Sims for 23.The home side went for lunch on 268 for six off 71 overs with Rogers on 98 while Wisdom Siziba was on five runs. Rogers reached his century after four hours at the crease, facing 181 deliveries and smashing 19 fours. He failed to add a run to his ton when he was dismissed by Paul Strang, caught at silly point by Stuart Matsikenyeri.Siziba and Piet Rinke shared an eighth-wicket stand of 59 before Siziba was clean bowled by young spinner Tinashe Ruswa for 34 runs. Rinke was to follow suit after offering a return catch to Strang off his own bowling to depart for 25.Matabeleland were finally finished when Jordane Nicolle, who had put up some resistance down the order, was caught at silly mid-on by Matsikenyeri off a Strang delivery for 13 runs. Mpumelelo Mbangwa, who was batting with the aid of a runner owing to a hamstring injury, was left unbeaten with one run to his name.Brent and Strang were the pick of the Manicaland bowlers with three wickets each. Brent gave away 60 runs in his 20-over spell and bowled four maidens, while Strang on the other hand conceded 37 runs from 16.5 overs with four maidens. Ruswa was close behind with two wickets while Mahwire and Sims took one wicket each.Chasing 134 runs to win with 36 overs to make that score, Manicaland saw their record-breaking pair of Neil Ferreira and Sims failing to live up to expectations, putting on 22 runs before Ferreira was caught and bowled by Mluleki Nkala for nine runs.Nkala rattled through the Manicaland top three when he dismissed Sims for 35 and Guy Whittall for 13. The situation got tense with Manicaland losing wickets cheaply and they were on the brink of giving it away.Matabeleland brought on Nkala for the 35th over, and in dramatic fashion, he clean bowled Mahwire with the first ball of the over for three runs.Nkala however failed to remove Gary Brent and Strang, with Strang hitting the last four runs to seal the match. Matabeleland used only three bowlers, Nkala, Ewing and Gavin Rennie, and they all proved effective.Nkala was the pick of the home bowlers with a haul of four wickets from 12 overs, giving away 53 runs and bowling one maiden. Rennie took two wickets from nine overs with one maiden and giving away 19 runs, whileEwing took one wicket.

West Ham fans on Rice England rating

Many West Ham United fans have been left very confused and angry as news emerged involving Declan Rice.

As shared by West Ham Central on their Twitter page, the Hammers midfielder was given a mere 5/10 rating for his display by The Liverpool Echo for his display against Denmark while on Euro 2020 duty with England.

An excerpt from the piece read that he was ‘poor again’, and ‘struggled’ to protect England’s defence, and is ‘fortunate’ to be keeping his place ahead of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.

A number of West Ham fans flocked to the tweet to voice their complete disagreement, with some citing the bias towards Henderson, and others claiming that the 22-year-old had a good game against the Danes.

Rice intercepted the ball on three separate occasions, the second-most out of his teammates behind Harry Maguire (five), and also made one clearance and tackle, achieving a 95% pass accuracy throughout the match, the highest out of any Three Lions player to have started (Sofascore).

The 22-year-old has played a big part in Gareth Southgate’s team getting to the final, starting each of their six games along the way, and so the criticism does seem very harsh.

Paratici set to offload Spurs’ deadwood

Alasdair Gold has dropped an exciting transfer claim as Tottenham Hotspur embark on a new era…

What’s the word?

Writing on Twitter, the ever-reliable football.london reporter claimed that it would be a “big summer of change” in North London following the appointment of Fabio Paratici as managing director of football.

It’s a role that has not been filled since Franco Baldini departed in 2015, so it certainly is an interesting new approach from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Gold linked to his latest column and wrote:

“The latest as I understand it on Paulo Fonseca, with talks progressing, Fabio Paratici’s arrival and a big summer of change at Spurs as I understand, a number of players have now been told they can leave and their agents instructed to find moves.”

Spurs’ new era

This latest development is hugely encouraging news as it shows that the Italian has already been working on Spurs’ summer business before he officially starts on July 1st.

He has one mighty task on his hands, too.

The Lilywhites finished seventh in the Premier League – their worst placement since 2008/09 – and have not won a major trophy since clinching the League Cup in 2008.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-manager-gossip-transfer-rumours-team-and-injury-updates-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, manager gossip, transfer rumours, team and injury updates and more!”]

There is also the small matter of keeping superstar striker Harry Kane at the club amid reports after reports suggested that he has expressed his desire to leave this summer.

A lot of the current squad have remained since Mauricio Pochettino’s stint, so you could argue that those players that let him down in the wake of their Champions League loss were the exact same ones who were at fault for Jose Mourinho’s downfall.

So the fact that Paratici already knows that he must move several of these players on should come as a major source of excitement for many in N17. It’ll also help boost the transfer kitty, with ex-Roma coach Paulo Fonseca expected to be appointed in the coming week or so.

He and the Italian are both about to kickstart a new era at Tottenham Hotspur. And that must be aided by the departure of several fringe stars.

Also according to Gold, Serge Aurier has announced his intention to leave whilst Juan Foyth’s loan move to Villarreal is expected to be made permanent.

The likes of Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Davinson Sanchez are all potential candidates for the chopping block, having been linked with an exit in recent months.

As mentioned above, this should create funds to help Paratici bolster Fonseca’s playing squad ahead of next season and whilst he’s not been the preferred candidate, it should give many supporters huge confidence that things are changing for the better, at long last.

Sunderland handed Dion Sanderson boost

Sunderland have been handed a boost in their quest to sign Dion Sanderson permanently this summer, following an update regarding his future.

The Lowdown: Sanderson impresses for Sunderland

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light from Wolves, catching the eye as the Black Cats reached the League One playoffs.

Sanderson made 26 appearances in the league overall, slotting into the defence impressively and being lauded by the fans for the impact he made, with supporters revealing their ‘love’ for the youngster and asking to sign him permanently.

The Latest: Black Cat given boost

Those fans will be delighted now, as Sunderland are thought to be keen on signing Sanderson permanently this summer and a positive update has emerged this weekend.

According to Yorkshire Live, talks over a Sanderson move to Huddersfield Town aren’t as far along as some have claimed, acting as a boost to the Black Cats.

The report names Sunderland as one of many clubs chasing a deal, revealing that the Terriers are now unlikely to be part of that competition, which is a boost for those still hoping to secure his signature.

The Verdict: Sign him permanently

Sanderson did enough during his loan spell to suggest he should be signed permanently ahead of next season, especially considering Wolves appear happy to cash in.

At 21, he is a player with a bright future who should only improve in the coming years, with an average of 2.7 clearances per game in the league last season outlining his defensive ability.

Lee Johnson will be keen for new signings in the summer transfer window, in order for another promotion push to materialise, and signing Sanderson would be ideal – he knows the club, has proven his mettle and his arrival would excite the fans.

In other news, one Sunderland player has reportedly been offered an exit route out of the club. Find out who it is here.

Bevan excels as Australia take Pepsi Trophy

Michael Gwyl Bevan is an ODI legend

Santhosh S06-Apr-2001Michael Gwyl Bevan is an ODI legend. After today’s match-winning heroics with the bat he has an astonishing batting average of 57.41. Time and again he has carried Australia through to some remarkable victories. Friday was yet another crunch day for the touring Australians and he showed his class by making an unbeaten 87 to carry his team to victory in the fifth ODI match against India, played at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Margao.Required to make 266 to win, Australia made 269/6 in 48 overs to score an exciting victory. Going into the match at 2-2, both teams had everything to play for. The Australian run chase got off to a flying start with Matthew Hayden carrying on with his resounding form. He got into the act straightaway smashing boundaries off Srinath. He cracked a straight six off Srinath as the partnership between him and Gilchrist bulged to 70 runs off 10 overs.Ajit Agarkar’s first over cost him 17 runs, Gilchrist smashing a six and two boundaries. In the 11th over Srinath struck two heavy blows. First he removed Hayden who had made 36 runs (42 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) and then in the same over he had Ricky Ponting (4) caught behind by Vijay Dahiya.Gilchrist saw to it that the Aussies did not go on the defensive by unleashing an attack on Harbhajan Singh and Srinath as runs flowed unabated. Gilchrist raced to his fifty off just 28 balls. With the introduction of spinners from either ends, runs started to come in trickles. The boundaries dried up as Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh kept a tight leash on the Aussie batsmen. Bevan and Gilchrist had to rely on quick running between the wickets.Gilchrist lost his wicket to Tendulkar, bowled while trying to guide a ball to third-man. He made 76 runs off 60 balls with the help of ten boundaries and a mighty six. Along with Bevan he added 68 valuable runs in 13.3 overs for the third wicket and in the process steadying the Australian innings.A middle order collapse ensued. Steve Waugh (17) was caught by Agarkar off Tendulkar at the boundary line. Darren Lehmann (1) played a cut shot straight into the hands of Yuvraj Singh off the bowling of Tendulkar. Hemang Badani held a good catch off the bowling of Srinath, at the cover fence to dismiss Andrew Symonds (7). India was clawing back into the match with Australia in some trouble at 202/6 in the 40th over. With the match keenly poised, there were renewed hopes of an Indian victory. Bevan would have none of that as he and Ian Harvey knocked of the required runs off 8.5 overs. Bevan who was declared Man of the Match, made 87 glorious runs, punctuating his knock with a huge six off Harbhajan Singh and five strokes past the ropes. Harvey played a little cameo of 25 which was struck off just 26 balls.Earlier in the day, Sourav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that was predicted to break up in the afternoon. Sachin Tendulkar hit a couple of boundaries and threatened to cut loose. Tendulkar (15) was caught behind by Gilchrist; trying to play a drive on the rise off Nathan Bracken.Ganguly, whose wretched form with the bat has been the cause of concern for a while, came good today. He smashed Shane Warne out of the attack. Two sixes and nine boundaries flowed from his bat in making 74 runs off 83 balls before he was caught at point by Ponting off a bouncer from McGrath.Laxman’s magic touch with the bat produced his maiden ODI hundred. He played an elegant innings of 101 off 107 balls, lacing his knock with 10 boundaries. He was particularly severe on Shane Warne and the part-time bowling of Symonds and Lehmann. Laxman’s knock came to end when he skied a catch to Gilchrist off Harvey’s bowling.Dravid (31) and Laxman added 97 runs for the fourth wicket in 16 overs. That was the last significant contribution with the bat as the middle and lower order failed to make an impact on the splendid start. Badani (7) and Yuvraj Singh (17) could not keep the momentum going. Dahiya remained unbeaten on 15 as India finished on 265/6 in 50 overs.Australia will take some comfort from this One-Day Series victory after having lost the Test series 2-1. Remarkably the most productive Australian batsmen in the Test series, Matthew Hayden was included in the ODI team at the last moment. He did not disappoint the selectors who reposed faith in him. No wonder he took the Man of the Series award for the one dayers too.

Man Utd linked to Ousmane Dembele

Manchester United could move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele this summer if they fail to secure the signature of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

What’s the story?

The England international has been a long-term target for United, and progress is reportedly being made to get that deal over the line, but Dembele is viewed as an alternative option if the 21-year-old stays put.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges were keen on the Barca man 12 months ago and still hold an interest in him to this day, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles (as reported by The Express).

Solskjaer must avoid

United enjoyed fans saw their team progress last season, achieving consecutive fourth-place finishes in the Premier League for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

However, they also witnessed their side crash out of the Champions League group stages and fall to defeat in the Europa League final, extending their longest trophy drought in over 30 years.

With Liverpool already making moves in the transfer market, strengthening their backline with the acquisition of Ibrahima Konate, and Chelsea bidding for the highly-rated Achraf Hakimi, the Red Devils need to bolster their ranks over the coming months.

The Transfer Window podcast host Castles has claimed that United may do so by bringing in Dembele, ending his four-year Camp Nou nightmare.

“Man United turned to Dembele at the end of the last transfer window when they couldn’t get (Jadon) Sancho,” he revealed.

“They made a number of bids and (held) extensive negotiations with FC Barcelona. (It’s) something they had in play from early in last summer’s transfer window.”

“They’re not working in the same way with Dembele this summer, but they have asked to be kept informed of what Dembele does and if he becomes available,” Castles continued.

“He is a back-option, and they’ve done a little bit of work on (a possible deal).”

The £210,000-per-week flop has failed to hit the heights during his time with the Catalan giants. A string of serious injuries have limited the 24-year-old to just 118 appearances in all competitions since his arrival back in 2017.

And although he’s shown glimpses of his top-class quality, Dembele has failed to hit double figures in either goals or assists during his four La Liga campaigns.

If United are going to close the 12-point gap to Premier League champions Manchester City next term, then Solskjaer needs to bring in someone with a far greater output than the Barca ace.
