Nazir's 189 overpowers SNGPL

Imran Nazir’s 189 charged Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited to a comprehensive 109-run win by posting 367 in 41.2 overs against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in Islamabad. In reply, SNGPL were all out in 36 overs and Azhar Ali’s hundred took them only to 258.After ZTBL’s opening pair put on 81, the second-wicket stand between Nazir and Yasir Hameed put on 163 runs even though Hameed’s contribution was only 20. The rest of the batsmen could not accompany Nazir for too long as he smashed 189 off only 83 balls, including 26 fours and nine sixes. Azhar and Asad Ali ran through the lower order, taking the last seven wickets for 31 runs. While Azhar took 5 for 66, the least expensive of the lot, Asad Ali finished with 3 for 67.Only one batsman for SNGPL got past 30, as Azhar scored a 76-ball 106. Once they lost five wickets for 192, left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar wrapped up the lower order with figures of 5 for 56 to complete the win.Khurram Manzoor’s ninth List A century helped Port Qasim Authority chase down 231, and secure an easy eight-wicket win against Pakistan Television in Lahore.Manzoor smashed 18 fours and two sixes during his 128, and added 144 for the opening wicket with Shahzaib Hasan, who made 66, as Port Qasim overhauled the target in 35.3 overs.PTV, put in to bat, were earlier buoyed by a century from the opener Imran Ali, that helped them overcome a slow start. Imran’s 103 included 11 fours, and he contributed 163 for the fourth wicket with Mohammad Sami. However, no other batsman could manage more than 13, as the team were restricted to 231 for 8 from their 45 overs. In a shortened game, Pakistan International Airlines prevailed over Habib Bank Limited by two runs according to D/L, thanks to a fifty from Shoaib Malik. PIA, chasing 215, were 182 for 6 in the 40th over when the game was called off.Shoaib blasted five fours as he made his way to 64, and Fahad Iqbal chipped in with a handy 31, but it was a 14-ball 25 from Adeel Malik, who hit three fours and a six, that ultimately made the difference for PIA by taking them ahead of the par score of 180 when the match came to a premature conclusion.Habib Bank’s innings had earlier been built on a patient 68 from the captain Younis Khan, and his 59-run fourth-wicket partnership with Hasan Raza. Younis departed in the 35th over, but Sulaman Qadir added a late surge by whacking six fours and one six, to take the team to 215 for 5.A 53 from Zain Abbas helped Khan Research Laboratories to a comprehensive 64-run win over State Bank of Pakistan in Rawalpindi.Abbas’ innings came with three fours and a six, and he added 53 for the opening wicket with Tayyab Riaz, as KRL made a strong start. Their middle order all made important contributions, including a 39 from Usman Salahuddin, as the team eventually rallied to 218 for 7.Raheel Majeed led the run-chase with a 97-ball 72, but eight of SBP’s batsmen got out for single digits, as Yasir Arafat, Nayyer Abbas and Umaid Asif took two wickets each to bundle them out for 154 in just over 36 overs.United Bank Limited chased a modest 160 posted by Water and Power Development Authority after Adil Raza and Atif Maqbool took four wickets each. WAPDA were all out in 37.4 overs with a late revival from Naved-ul-Hasan, who scored 38 off 35.Raza and Maqbool stifled the batsmen, sharing the top six wickets between them as WAPDA saw five of their batsmen scoring in single digits. In reply, UBL saw stable contributions from their top-order batsmen who scored 101 runs together. Asif Ali and Khalid Usman dented the chase with two wickets each but UBL eventually finished the chase with five overs to spare.

Five-day Sheffield Shield matches mooted

Australia may depart from nearly a century of tradition – and global cricket custom – to play Sheffield Shield matches over five days in order to more closely mirror Test match playing conditions, under a proposal placed before Cricket Australia by the national team performance manager Pat Howard.Among numerous ideas floated by Howard as a way of revitalising the Shield and ensuring it provides a better grounding for international aspirants in the wake of Australia’s grim Test match results so far in 2013, the concept of five-day first-class combat down under has been costed and will be discussed by CA for possible introduction in future summers beyond 2013-14.Howard’s proposal underlines the CA high performance regime’s concern about the drift of Shield matches towards three-day results and “sporting” pitches, a trend that has been reflected in the breakdown of Australia’s batting production line in recent years. In the wake of the Lord’s Test, the Ashes tourists Usman Khawaja and Matthew Wade both expressed a desire for domestic pitches to return to their more traditionally contrasting characteristics, from Sydney’s spin to Perth’s bounce.”We want as much of what is happening at international level to be mirrored at domestic level,” Howard told ESPNcricinfo. “The goal here in the shorter term is get far more domestic cricket to go in to the fourth day at the moment. If there was five days of cricket available we would be confident of matches having results, but also both batsman and bowlers having to deal with different conditions.”Other concepts designed to ensure Shield matches are played over a more considerable duration include closer monitoring of the standard of first-class pitches with possible penalties for days in which more than 14 wickets fall. Next summer’s domestic limited overs competition has been shifted to an early season slot in the forthcoming summer, allowing six Shield matches to be played in the lead-up to the final two Tests of 2013-14 without any change in format for players to negotiate. The lengthening of Shield matches to five days is not without precedent, as the competition final has always been played over that length of time. In the competition’s earliest years between 1892 and 1927, every match was played to a finish, often stretching into a fifth day. Between 1927-28 and 1930 the Shield was contested over five days. But in every season since 1930-31 each fixture excluding the decider has been fought over four.A move to five-day matches would also take after the universal introduction of four-day County Championship fixtures for the 1993 English season, after more than 120 years of three-day cricket. This change has been cited often as one of the turning points in the English game, and was encouraged in part by the status of Australia’s domestic system as that which best grounded players for Test match duty.Twenty years on and CA may be about to venture even further into recreating the conditions and rhythms of a Test.

Kandamby, Dilruwan help Rest of Sri Lanka lift trophy

Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath took three wickets apiece in the final of the List-A tri-series in Pallekele, as Rest of Sri Lanka inflicted a 79-run loss on SLC Combined, to take the title

Batting first after winning the toss, Rest of Sri Lanka were all out for 205, riding on fifties from Lahiru Thirimanne and Thilina Kandamby. Despite the modest target, SLC Combined’s batsmen could not muster a competitive response against the spinners and were dismissed for 129 in the 33rd over.Rest of Sri Lanka began poorly, losing both openers inside five overs, before losing five wickets for 26 through the middle overs, but two solid partnerships saw them breach 200. Thirimanne’s 62-run stand with Dinesh Chandimal (31) helped their side recover from the early blows, but their work was almost undone by opposition offspinner Danushka Gunathilaka, who struck four times in six overs, to gut Rest of Sri Lanka’s lower-middle order. He began by having Thirimanne stumped for 51, before removing Dilruwan Perera, Milinda Siriwardene and Nuwan Kulasekara as well.Kandamby had remained resolute at one end as wickets fell at the other, but he finally found a capable partner in Suranga Lakmal, who came in at 151 for 8. The pair put on 49 together, and Kandamby remained unbeaten on 65 from 86, having hit seven fours. Gunathilaka finished with the game’s best figures, 4 for 30, from his full quota of overs.Dilwuran opened the bowling, and dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne early in the innings, before left-arm seamer Vimukthi Perera struck twice and effected a run out off his own bowling to make further headway into the SLC Combined top order. Gunathilaka and allrounder Chaturanga de Silva attempted to revive the innings, after it had slipped to 71 for 5, but their 36-run partnership did not constitute a real challenge to Rest of Sri Lanka, and Herath arrived late in the game to wipe out the tail.Rest of Sri Lanka, who had six of Sri Lanka’s 15 Champions Trophy players in their squad, won four out of five of their matches, but Chanaka Welegedara was injured during their penultimate game and is now in doubt for the tournament.

إنبي يعلن تطورات جديدة في أزمة اختفاء لاعبه إيريك تراوري

Filling the Ponting void

Australia’s Test team convened without Ricky Ponting in Hobart on Monday evening. Barring reasons of injury or personal leave, this is the first time such a state of affairs has existed since 1999.The space left by Ponting will be felt as much in the dressing room as out in the middle, for while his run-making trailed off badly towards the end, his contribution to the team’s development as a mentor and example was seldom stronger.Phillip Hughes occupies Ponting’s place on the team sheet, but all will be expected to take up the considerable hole left by his presence. Apart from the captain Michael Clarke, the most senior members of the squad to play at Bellerive are Michael Hussey, Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson.Their insights and examples will be critical to younger team-mates, and so too will the personal experience of Ed Cowan. Having benefited greatly from the time he spent around Ponting both before and after his elevation to the national team, Cowan will now be expected to show that example.”It’s an odd situation in that one of the guys that has been inked into the top order, but more so inked into the culture of the change room, will be missing,” Cowan told ESPNcricinfo. “So there are two ways to look at it. One is to reminisce and think what a hole he’s going to leave. The other side of the coin is that it’s an opportunity for guys to step up, not only as players but as leaders around the change room, and that’s an opportunity for a number of guys to combine together and try to fill the void of his presence.”I think cultures evolve, and the culture of this team has evolved since Michael’s taken the captaincy, so it’s a question of guys being willing like Ricky was to give of themselves to the team like no other. Put the team first, play to win, and make sure the change rooms are a better place when the next person steps into it. A massive loss off the field, but the identity of this team has been growing since Michael took over the captaincy, and that growth’s been pretty evident in the results.”That those results did not culminate in a series victory over South Africa was down to a major malfunction at Nos. 3 and 4 in the batting order – of which Ponting was of course a part – the toll of three Tests on the hosts’ bowlers, and the resilience of the seasoned visitors. Cowan enjoyed a productive series personally, making his first Test century and looking comfortable at other times, but the most resounding lessons of the series were of the five-day game’s unremitting nature.”From a team point of view it was a great lesson that Test series are exactly that,” Cowan said. “It’s not one or two days of really decent cricket, to beat the best you have to be consistent for 15 days. As a group we felt as though we dominated them for eight or nine days of the series, maybe had points decisions on two or three days and only lost two or three days to them, and you end up losing the series. So it was a great lesson for us that the great teams soak up pressure when they have to and have an ability to really nail you when they have that momentum.”They were due to have a good day. That was in the back of everyone’s mind that they’d been pounded and pounded and pounded and yet it showed 0-0, and it took a toll on our bowlers a bit more with both quicks sitting out [Perth]. So we were up against it when our top three quicks were all unavailable for what was a grand final, so it was always going to be hard work. We had our opportunity after day one with the bat to really nail them and we didn’t take it, then with the ball we let things slip, and in a matter of hours the series was prettymuch gone.”Having said that, deep down we knew we gave it a massive shake. The best team in the world had come here with the intention of proving how good they were, and we flexed a few muscles and showed how good we were over the course of the series, but didn’t come away with the biscuits.”Ponting’s retirement and its associated melancholy appeared to add a mental toll to the physical strain evident after the sapping conclusion to the Adelaide Test. Cowan said the start of a new series would allow the start of a new and fresh chapter, without anything like the pathos that enveloped Australia at the WACA ground – there will certainly be fewer tears shed this week, both in private and in public.”It was tough mentally, and physically because it was a back-to-back Test,” Cowan said. “Now we’ve had a chance to refresh, take stock and move forward. Phil Hughes is coming into the side off a lot of runs and we’re pretty confident that everyone can contribute to the team moving forward. We’re now missing Australia’s greatest modern batsmen, but it’s an opportunity for guys to step up. It puts expectation on other guys to fill the void. That’s the only way.”

No domingo, contra o Internacional, o técnico usou a escalação alternativa contra o Internacional, rival direto no G4 – o jogo acabou empatado em 0 a 0.
